1. Download the PDF from Discover

  1. Sign in at discover.com (the Discover app's activity list shows only the last 20 transactions).
  2. Open Statements for your card.
  3. Pick the statement and download or save the PDF.

2. Upload and verify

Utilly reads every transaction, then checks that opening balance + transactions = closing balance. You'll see Balanced ✓ or exactly how far off it is, before you pay anything.

3. Import into QuickBooks

  1. Download the .QBO (Web Connect) file from your results page.
  2. QuickBooks Online: go to Bank transactions (All apps → Accounting) → Link account ▾ → Upload from file, choose the .QBO file (or the QuickBooks Online CSV, in Intuit's 3-column Date, Description, Amount format) and pick the account.
  3. QuickBooks Desktop (supported versions): Banking → Bank Feeds → Import Web Connect Files, signed in to your Intuit Account. On Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026, download the .IIF instead.

About Discover statements

Discover card statements list each transaction with a Trans. Date and a Post Date, grouped under labels such as Payments and Credits, Merchandise, Restaurants, Supermarkets and Gasoline, with the label printed beside the first row of each group. Payments and credits print with a minus sign. Utilly reads every group into one list, joins descriptions that wrap onto a second line, ignores the Cashback Bonus box and checks Previous Balance against New Balance.

Works with Discover Discover it, Discover it Secured, Miles, Chrome and other Discover card statements. Layout tested: Group labels beside the first row, Trans./Post dates, '$' printed apart, Cashback Bonus box.

Why QuickBooks?

QuickBooks Online can now read a card statement PDF itself (Upload from file → AI extraction with side-by-side review), but QuickBooks Desktop can't. The .QBO file from Utilly is a credit-card Web Connect file: import it into a Credit Card account in Online or a supported Desktop version, already checked against the statement's New Balance. Need Desktop without Web Connect? Download the .IIF instead. There's also a QuickBooks Online CSV in Intuit's 3-column format. Intuit notes card CSVs can import with amounts reversed, so check the review screen before you accept.

On QuickBooks Desktop, especially 2023 after bank feeds stopped, use IIF. If import says File not imported, see IIF import errors and how to fix them, or check the file first with the free IIF file checker.

FAQ

Questions

Can I convert a Discover statement PDF to QuickBooks (QBO) for free?

You can preview every statement free: we show the balance check and the first 5 transactions with no sign-up. Unlocking the full file costs one credit ($9 for 5 statements).

How do you handle payments and refunds on a card statement?

Charges, fees and interest come out as negative amounts (money out) and payments, refunds and statement credits as positive. We then check Previous Balance − payments/credits + charges = New Balance, so you know every row was captured.

Can QuickBooks import a PDF bank statement directly?

QuickBooks Online can: Upload from file accepts a PDF statement and uses AI to extract it for your review. QuickBooks Desktop can't. It imports bank transactions from QBO (Web Connect) files on supported versions, or IIF files. Utilly is useful when you want a file that's already verified against the statement balances, need Desktop, or want the same data in Excel for your workpapers.

Can I get a CSV for QuickBooks Online instead of a .QBO file?

Yes. The results page has a QuickBooks Online CSV in Intuit's 3-column bank upload format: Date, Description, Amount, with MM/DD/YYYY dates, a minus sign for money out and no Balance column. Characters Intuit's upload checklist says can block an import are removed from descriptions. Upload it under Bank transactions → Link account ▾ → Upload from file. A statement with more than 1,000 transactions comes as a .zip of files that each fit Intuit's upload limit. One credit covers every format.

Is my statement stored?

No. The PDF is read in memory and never written to disk, and extracted results are deleted after 1 hour. We never use your data for AI training.

Do scanned statements work?

Not yet. PDFs downloaded from online banking are text-based and work well. Scans and phone photos need OCR, which is on the roadmap.

What if it doesn't balance?

You'll see exactly how far off it is before paying. If a paid conversion is wrong and we can't fix it, email support@version1.io for a refund.
