Bank statement to QuickBooks converters compared (2026): prices, file formats and free options
For a few statements now and then, a pay-per-use converter is cheapest: Utilly charges $9 once for 5 statements and checks each one against the statement balance. For high volume or scanned statements, DocuClipper or MoneyThumb fit better; for offline desktop use, ProperConvert. QuickBooks Online can also read PDF statements itself.
Who wrote this: Utilly, which makes one of the converters below. We've tried to be fair: every competitor price and feature was checked on that vendor's own website on October 23, 2026 and is linked at the source, and we say plainly where other tools do things ours doesn't (scanned statements, direct sync, high volume). Prices change, so confirm before you buy.

What a 12-month catch-up costs on each
A common one-off job: a new client hands you 12 monthly PDF statements for one checking account, about 4 pages each (48 pages).
- Utilly: 12 credits. Three $9 packs ($27, with 3 credits left that never expire), or one month of Pro at $19 and cancel.
- DocuClipper: 48 pages fits the 60-page plan, so one month at $29, then cancel. A 6-page statement would push you to 72 pages and the next tier.
- MoneyThumb Online: 12 conversions. The $24.95 plan includes 5 a month, so you either need a larger plan or several months.
- ProperConvert: one month at $19.99, unlimited pages, on one computer.
- QuickBooks Online upload: no extra cost if you're on QuickBooks Online, but you review and save 12 statements one by one.
For ongoing volume the math flips: once you convert dozens of statements every month, a subscription or a desktop licence with unlimited pages usually wins.
Which one to choose
- Your statements are scans or phone photos: DocuClipper, MoneyThumb or ProperConvert, or QuickBooks Online's own upload. Utilly doesn't read scanned statements yet.
- QuickBooks Desktop 2023 or another version that lost bank feeds: you need an .IIF file, because Intuit switched off Web Connect for Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026. Utilly, DocuClipper and ProperConvert write IIF; see how to import after bank feeds stopped.
- A few statements, now and then: a pay-per-use tool. Utilly's $9 pack covers 5 statements with no subscription to cancel.
- Dozens of statements a month and you want transactions pushed straight into QuickBooks Online or Xero: DocuClipper.
- Files must never leave your computer: ProperConvert.
- You only use QuickBooks Online and have a handful of statements: try Intuit's built-in PDF upload first.
Do you need a converter at all?
Often not, for recent months: most banks let you download QBO, QFX or CSV files from online banking, and QuickBooks Online imports those directly (a transaction list must be 350 KB or less, up to 1,000 lines per upload, per Intuit). A converter earns its keep when the history is older than the bank's download window, the account is closed, a client only sends PDFs, or you're on QuickBooks Desktop. See how to upload a PDF bank statement to QuickBooks Online and QBO vs IIF vs QIF for which file each version needs.
How to check any converter's output
Whatever tool you use, check one equation before importing: opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance, to the cent. If it doesn't hold, a row is missing, doubled or has the wrong sign. Our free statement balance checker does this in your browser for a CSV from any converter, and the IIF file checker catches IIF problems before QuickBooks Desktop does.
What Utilly does and doesn't do
Does: reads text-based PDF bank and credit card statements (tested on Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Mercury, Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi cards), checks the result against the statement's balances, and writes QBO, IIF, QuickBooks Online CSV, Xero CSV, QIF, OFX, CSV and Excel. Files are processed in memory and deleted after an hour. Try a sample statement or upload your own for a free preview.
Doesn't: read scanned statements, connect to your bank or push into QuickBooks or Xero (you download and import a file), write QFX, or handle line-item coding rules. If you need those, one of the other tools above is the better fit.
FAQ
What is the best bank statement to QuickBooks converter?
It depends on volume and file type. For occasional statements, a pay-per-use tool such as Utilly ($9 one-time for 5 statements, each checked against the statement balance) is cheapest. For high volume, scanned statements or direct sync into QuickBooks Online, DocuClipper (from $29/month for 60 pages) fits better. ProperConvert ($19.99/month, desktop) suits offline use, and QuickBooks Online can read PDF statements itself.
Is there a free bank statement to QuickBooks converter?
QuickBooks Online's own Upload from file reads PDF and image statements at no extra cost if you're on QuickBooks Online. Utilly's free preview runs the full balance check and shows the first 5 transactions, and it converts CSV, Excel and OFX files up to 100 rows to QBO or IIF free. DocuClipper has a 14-day trial of up to 120 pages; ProperConvert's free trial saves files of up to 10 transactions.
Which converters make IIF files for QuickBooks Desktop?
Utilly, DocuClipper and ProperConvert write IIF. That matters for QuickBooks Desktop 2023, which lost bank feeds and Web Connect (.QBO) uploads after May 31, 2026, because IIF is a local import that keeps working.
Can I convert a bank statement to QuickBooks without a subscription?
Yes. Utilly sells a one-time $9 pack of 5 credits that never expire, one credit per statement. QuickBooks Online's built-in PDF upload is included in a QuickBooks Online subscription.
Which converter reads scanned bank statements?
DocuClipper, MoneyThumb and ProperConvert all say they read scanned statements, and QuickBooks Online's upload accepts images. Utilly reads text-based PDFs only (the kind you download from online banking).
How do I know a converter didn't miss a transaction?
Check that opening balance plus deposits minus withdrawals equals the closing balance, to the cent. Utilly runs this check on every PDF; for files from any other converter, use a free statement balance checker before importing.
