MoneyThumb alternatives (2026): an honest comparison for bank statements
The main MoneyThumb alternatives for bank statements are DocuClipper, ProperConvert, QuickBooks Online's own PDF upload and Utilly. For a few text PDFs now and then, Utilly's $9 one-time pack costs least; for long or scanned statements, MoneyThumb's per-statement pricing is hard to beat.
Who wrote this: Utilly, which is one of the alternatives below. We've tried to be fair: every MoneyThumb and competitor price and feature was checked on that vendor's own website on October 23, 2026 and is linked at the source, and we say plainly where MoneyThumb and the others do things ours doesn't (scanned statements, direct push into QuickBooks Online, QFX for Quicken, other languages). Prices change, so confirm before you buy.
What MoneyThumb costs and does now
MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks bills by the conversion: each account on each monthly statement counts as one, however many pages it has, and reconverting the same file counts once. From its pricing page on October 23, 2026 (US dollars):
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (paid up front) |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | $24.95 for 5 conversions a month | $199.95 for 60 conversions a year |
| Standard | $49.95 for 20 conversions a month | $399.95 for 240 conversions a year |
| Pro | $99.95 for 60 conversions a month | $799.95 for 800 conversions a year |
- Unused conversions roll over when the subscription renews; conversions are valid for the life of the subscription. Yearly plans "save 33%" and give you the year's conversions up front.
- What it reads: scanned or native PDF statements (MoneyThumb calls its OCR "built for bank statements"), plus OFX, CSV, QFX and QIF files. You pick the statement type, language and date format before converting (product page).
- What it writes: transactions straight into QuickBooks Online, or a .qbo (Web Connect) file for QuickBooks Online (not Self-Employed) and, per MoneyThumb, QuickBooks Desktop 2023 to 2025. Auto-balance, reconciliation and assisted payee cleanup are included.
- Other formats are separate products, each listed "as low as $24.95 for 5 statement conversions per month": OFX or QIF for other accounting software, QFX for Quicken, and CSV or Excel.
- Trial: the store page has a "Try it for free" button but doesn't state the trial's limits.
What happened to 2qbo Convert Pro
Many people searching for a MoneyThumb alternative used the desktop 2qbo Convert Pro or Pro+ licence. On October 23, 2026, MoneyThumb's shop lists only online converters (QuickBooks, OFX, QFX and Excel) plus its lender tools, and the old 2qbo Convert Pro and Pro+ store addresses redirect to the MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks page. So a new buyer can't get a desktop licence from the shop; if you already own one, it's between you and MoneyThumb whether it keeps working and gets bank-format updates. If you want software that runs on your own computer, ProperConvert (below) is the closest match.
Why people look for an alternative
- The desktop licence is gone. Paying once and converting forever was the draw; the online product is a subscription.
- Low or uneven volume. $24.95 a month for 5 conversions is $5 a statement. Rollover helps, but if you convert a handful of statements a year, you still pay every month you stay subscribed.
- More than one output. QuickBooks, OFX/QIF, QFX and Excel are separate subscriptions. A bookkeeper with QuickBooks and Xero clients may need two.
- QuickBooks Desktop 2023 and IIF. MoneyThumb Online writes .qbo (Web Connect). Intuit ended Web Connect uploads for QuickBooks Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026, so 2023 users need an IIF file, which MoneyThumb Online doesn't list. See importing after bank feeds stopped.
If none of these apply, and especially if your statements are long, scanned or not in English, MoneyThumb Online is probably still the right tool.

A 12-month catch-up on each
A common one-off job: a new client hands you 12 monthly PDF statements for one checking account, about 4 pages each (48 pages).
- MoneyThumb Online: 12 conversions. The $49.95 Standard plan (20 a month) covers it in one month, with 8 left over while you stay subscribed. On the $24.95 plan it takes three months ($74.85).
- Utilly: 12 credits. Three $9 packs ($27, with 3 credits left that never expire), or one month of Pro at $19 and cancel.
- DocuClipper: 48 pages fits Starter 60, so one month at $29, then cancel.
- ProperConvert: one month at $19.99, unlimited pages, on one computer.
- QuickBooks Online upload: no extra cost if you're on QuickBooks Online, but you review and save 12 statements one by one.
Now make them long: 12 business statements of 15 pages each (180 pages). MoneyThumb still counts 12 conversions ($49.95), Utilly still 12 credits ($27), ProperConvert is still $19.99, but DocuClipper needs Starter 300 at $79. Per-statement pricing is where MoneyThumb (and Utilly) win; for hundreds of statements a month, ProperConvert's flat fee or DocuClipper's larger plans usually come out ahead.
Who should pick what
- Stay with MoneyThumb if your statements are long, scanned or in another language, you want transactions pushed straight into QuickBooks Online, or you only ever need .qbo files and convert enough each month to use the plan.
- Pick Utilly if you convert a few text-based PDF statements now and then, want each one checked against the statement balance, need an .IIF for QuickBooks Desktop 2023 or a Xero CSV alongside the .QBO, and don't want a subscription. Try the free preview first.
- Pick ProperConvert if you liked owning desktop software, client statements must never leave your computer, or you convert a lot and want unlimited pages for a flat fee.
- Pick DocuClipper if several people need access, you also extract invoices and receipts, or you want direct push into Xero as well as QuickBooks Online.
- Try QuickBooks Online's upload first if you're on QuickBooks Online and only have a few statements.
Whatever you choose, check one equation before importing: opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance, to the cent. Our free statement balance checker does this in your browser for a CSV from any converter, and the IIF file checker catches problems before QuickBooks Desktop does. Getting a .qbo rejected? See QBO Web Connect import errors.
What Utilly does and doesn't do
Does: reads text-based PDF bank and credit card statements (tested on Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One and Mercury bank statements and Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi cards), checks the result against the statement's balances, and writes QBO, IIF, QuickBooks Online CSV, Xero CSV, QIF, OFX, CSV and Excel from the same upload. It also converts CSV, Excel, OFX and QIF files to QBO, IIF or Xero CSV (CSV to QBO, free up to 100 rows). Statement PDFs are processed in memory and results are deleted after an hour. Try a sample statement or upload your own for a free preview.
Doesn't: read scanned or photographed statements, read statements in languages other than English, connect to your bank or push into QuickBooks or Xero (you download a file and import it), write QFX, offer an API, or sell a desktop app. If you need those, MoneyThumb or one of the other tools above is the better fit.
FAQ
What is the best MoneyThumb alternative?
It depends on what you used MoneyThumb for. For a few text-based PDF statements now and then, Utilly ($9 one-time for 5 statements, no subscription) costs less than a monthly plan and also writes IIF and Xero CSV. If you want software on your own computer like the old 2qbo Convert Pro, ProperConvert ($19.99/month, unlimited pages, Windows and Mac). For several users or invoices and receipts too, DocuClipper (from $29/month for 60 pages). QuickBooks Online users can try its built-in PDF upload first.
How much does MoneyThumb cost in 2026?
MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks is $24.95/month for 5 conversions, $49.95 for 20 or $99.95 for 60, or yearly $199.95 for 60, $399.95 for 240 and $799.95 for 800 conversions. Each account on each monthly statement is one conversion, and unused conversions roll over when the subscription renews. OFX/QIF, QFX and Excel output are separate products, each from $24.95/month for 5. Checked October 23, 2026.
Can you still buy 2qbo Convert Pro?
Not from MoneyThumb's shop as of October 23, 2026. The shop lists only online converters, and the old 2qbo Convert Pro and Pro+ store pages redirect to MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks, a subscription. ProperConvert is the closest desktop replacement.
Is there a free MoneyThumb alternative?
QuickBooks Online's own Upload from file reads PDF and image statements at no extra cost if you're on QuickBooks Online. Utilly's free preview runs the full balance check and shows the first 5 transactions, and it converts CSV, Excel, OFX and QIF files to QBO up to 100 rows free. DocuClipper's 14-day trial covers up to 120 pages with no card.
Which MoneyThumb alternatives read scanned bank statements?
DocuClipper and ProperConvert say they read scanned statements, and QuickBooks Online's upload accepts images (JPG, PNG, HEIC). MoneyThumb reads scans too. Utilly reads text-based PDFs only, the kind you download from online banking.
Which alternatives make IIF files for QuickBooks Desktop?
Utilly, ProperConvert and DocuClipper write IIF. MoneyThumb Online lists .qbo (Web Connect) output. IIF matters for QuickBooks Desktop 2023, which lost bank feeds and Web Connect uploads after May 31, 2026; IIF is a local import that keeps working.
Should I stay with MoneyThumb?
Often, yes. If your statements are long (it charges per statement, not per page), scanned or in another language, or you want transactions pushed straight into QuickBooks Online, MoneyThumb Online is a strong fit, and unused conversions roll over.
