1. Upload

Any bank, card or app export: CSV (comma, semicolon or tab), Excel .xlsx, or OFX/QFX/QBO downloads.

2. Check the mapping

We detect the date, description and amount (or debit/credit) columns and the date format. Change anything, flip signs, and preview the result.

3. Download

Get .QBO for QuickBooks, .IIF for QuickBooks Desktop, .QIF for Quicken, a Xero CSV, or a clean CSV. Same file, any format.

Why QBO?

QuickBooks Desktop's Web Connect import only reads .qbo files, so a plain OFX or a Quicken QFX download has to be converted first. Renaming the file isn't the same thing. QuickBooks Online can upload a QFX directly, but Intuit suggests a .QBO file over QFX or CSV.

.QBO import failing with OL-222, OL-221 or "unable to verify the Financial Institution"? See QuickBooks .QBO Web Connect import errors.

How to convert OFX or QFX to QBO

  1. Download the OFX or QFX file from your bank or card issuer for the dates you're missing. Pick dates that aren't in QuickBooks yet.
  2. Upload it above. We read each transaction's posted date, amount and payee, the last 4 digits of the account number and the file's ending balance, and tell bank files from credit card files.
  3. Check the preview. Money out should be negative. Leave Account last 4 or nickname (QBO) blank to use the last 4 digits from the file, or type your own so each account keeps the same ID every month.
  4. Download the .QBO and back up your company file.
  5. QuickBooks Desktop (a version that still has online banking): File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files, choose the file and pick the account. QuickBooks Online: Bank transactions → Link account ▾ → Upload from file.

What carries over from the OFX file

One transaction in your bank's OFX or QFX download:

<STMTTRN><TRNTYPE>DEBIT<DTPOSTED>20260901<TRNAMT>-6420.18
<FITID>0000418823901<NAME>ACH DEBIT GUSTO PAYROLL 0912</STMTTRN>

becomes this in the .QBO (account ending 0427):

<STMTTRN><TRNTYPE>DEBIT<DTPOSTED>20260901120000<TRNAMT>-6420.18
<FITID>20260901E26D1A27070800<NAME>ACH DEBIT GUSTO PAYROLL 0912
<MEMO>ACH DEBIT GUSTO PAYROLL 0912</STMTTRN>
In the OFX / QFXIn the .QBO
DTPOSTED (posted date)Same date, written at noon. The time and time zone are dropped.
TRNAMT (amount)Same signed amount, two decimals. TRNTYPE is CREDIT for money in and DEBIT for money out.
NAME (or MEMO when NAME is empty)NAME cut to 32 characters, with the full text in MEMO. & becomes "and".
ACCTID (account number)Only the last 4 digits, as the account ID, unless you type your own.
LEDGERBAL (ending balance)The same balance and date, when it's dated on or after the last transaction, the account type matches the file and you haven't flipped the signs. Otherwise 0.00.
Credit card statement block (CCSTMTRS)A credit card Web Connect file. Import it into a Credit Card account.
FITID (the bank's transaction ID)Replaced by an ID made from the account, date, amount and description. See below.
Bank ID (FID, INTU.BID)Replaced by bank ID 3000. See below.

Bank IDs and transaction IDs

  • Bank ID 3000. Every file we write says <FI><ORG>Utilly<FID>3000</FI><INTU.BID>3000. It's the generic bank ID converters commonly use, and Wells Fargo's entry in Intuit's published list is 03000, so QuickBooks Desktop may label the download Wells Fargo. The transactions still go into the account you pick. You can't set a different bank ID here.
  • New transaction IDs. The same transaction always gets the same ID when you convert it again, so importing two overlapping files made here skips the repeats. Your bank's own IDs don't carry over, though. If you already imported some of these dates from the bank's own .QBO or bank feed, QuickBooks won't recognize them as the same transactions. Import only dates that aren't in QuickBooks yet.
  • Why not just rename the file? Desktop's Web Connect reads only .qbo files and checks the bank ID inside. A QFX made for Quicken, or a plain OFX, may carry an ID QuickBooks doesn't recognize, or none at all.

Which files work

  • OFX 1.x (SGML) and OFX 2.x (XML) files, Quicken QFX files and QuickBooks Web Connect .qbo files.
  • Bank and credit card statement downloads. Investment (brokerage) downloads aren't supported.
  • Encoded characters are decoded, so H&amp;M in the file reads as H&M in the preview.
  • Free up to 100 transactions, and up to 20,000 per file. QuickBooks Online takes up to 1,000 transactions and 350 KB per upload, so download long periods in smaller date ranges.

Common problems

ProblemFix
"Unable to verify the Financial Institution information for this download"Desktop didn't accept the bank ID. Download the .IIF from the same results page, or use the OFX / QFX to IIF converter. IIF import doesn't check a bank ID.
QuickBooks Desktop 2023 won't take any .QBOWeb Connect stopped working there after May 31, 2026. Use the OFX / QFX to IIF converter instead.
OL-222, OL-221 or another OL errorSee QuickBooks .QBO Web Connect import errors.
Transactions imported twiceThe file overlapped dates already in QuickBooks from another source. See duplicate transactions after importing.
Card payments show as chargesChoose Credit card as the account type, check the signs in the preview and tick Flip signs if they're backwards.
"No transactions found in that OFX/QFX/QBO file"The download has no transactions for that date range, or it's an investment file. Download the account again with a wider date range.

Pricing

Free for files up to 100 transactions, which covers a typical month of activity. Larger files (a year of catch-up, a client's full history) use 1 credit from the same $9 pack of 5 as our PDF statement converter, or unlimited on Pro at $19/month. The preview is always free.

FAQ

Questions

Is it free?

Yes for files up to 100 transactions: no sign-up, no watermark. Bigger files (multi-month catch-up work) use 1 credit from the same $9 / 5-credit pack as our PDF converter, and the preview is always free.

How do I import the QBO file?

QuickBooks Desktop: Banking → Bank Feeds → Import Web Connect Files (signed in to your Intuit Account), then pick the account. QuickBooks Online: Bank transactions (All apps → Accounting) → Link account ▾ → Upload from file. If your Desktop version no longer accepts Web Connect files, download the .IIF instead.

Can I import files for several accounts into one QuickBooks company file?

Yes. Type each account's last 4 digits or a nickname in the preview, under Account last 4 or nickname (QBO), and use the same one every month. Each .QBO then carries that account's own ID, and each transaction's ID is made from its date, amount, description and account. QuickBooks keeps the accounts apart, and when two files overlap, Desktop skips the transactions it has already imported (as long as they're worded the same in both). Leave the box blank and we use the account number's last 4 digits from an OFX/QFX/QBO file, or an ID made from the file's columns and account type.

What ending balance does the .QBO show?

The last balance in your file's Balance column, if that column matches every row, or the ending balance inside an OFX, QFX or QBO file you upload. Otherwise 0.00, because the format requires a balance and we won't guess one. Reconcile against your statement either way.

Which columns do I need?

A date, a description and either one signed Amount column or separate Debit and Credit columns. We detect them automatically and you can change the mapping before downloading.

Is my file stored?

No. Files are processed in memory and deleted after 1 hour. We never use your data for AI training.

Can I try it without uploading my own file?

Yes. Click a sample button under the upload box. It opens a made-up export from a fictional bank in the same preview your own file gets, and every format is free to download, so you can test an import in a test or backup company file first. Don't import a sample into your real books.

Can I just rename my .qfx or .ofx file to .qbo?

Sometimes it imports, but QuickBooks Desktop checks the bank ID inside the file, and a Quicken or plain OFX download may carry one it doesn't recognize, or none at all. Converting writes a proper Web Connect header with a bank ID instead of relying on whatever the bank put in the file.

Does the .QBO keep my bank's transaction IDs?

No. Each transaction gets a new ID made from the account, date, amount and description, so the same transaction gets the same ID every time you convert it. The bank's own IDs don't carry over, so don't import this file over dates you already imported from the bank's own download, or QuickBooks can add them twice.

Which bank ID does the .QBO use?

3000, the generic bank ID converters commonly use, so QuickBooks Desktop may label the download Wells Fargo. The transactions still go into the account you choose when you import. If Desktop says it can't verify the financial institution, use the OFX / QFX to IIF converter instead.
