About Regions statements

Regions statements group transactions by type, Deposits & Credits, Withdrawals, Fees and Checks (printed two across, with a * where the check numbers skip), with no sign on any amount and no running balance beside the rows. Utilly signs each row by its section, turns checks into "Check 3101" rows, keeps the page header off the descriptions when a section runs onto the next page, and checks the result against the Summary's Beginning and Ending Balance.

Works with Regions checking statements. Layout tested: Sections by type, unsigned amounts, checks printed two across.

Why Excel?

Excel is the fastest way to review a statement, tag categories, or hand a clean transaction list to your accountant.

Short answer: save the statement PDF from Online Statements in Regions Online Banking, upload it above, and check that it shows Balanced ✓. You get a CSV that opens in Excel with one row per deposit, withdrawal, fee and check, withdrawals negative and deposits positive, even though Regions prints every amount without a sign.

How to convert a Regions statement PDF to Excel

  1. Download the PDF: sign in to Regions Online Banking, choose Online Statements from the Accounts menu, and download the statement from the Online Statements & Documents page. In the Regions app, open the account and choose View statements & documents. Use the downloaded PDF, not a scan or a phone photo of a paper statement: scans don't work yet.
  2. Upload it above. Utilly reads the Deposits & Credits, Withdrawals, Fees and Checks sections and checks Beginning Balance + deposits − withdrawals − fees − checks = Ending Balance. The preview shows Balanced ✓, or exactly how far off it is, before you pay anything.
  3. Download the CSV and open it in Excel. Dates and amounts come in as real dates and numbers.
  4. Save as .xlsx (File → Save As → Excel Workbook) if you want to keep formulas or formatting.

What we read on a Regions statement

A Regions checking statement (LifeGreen Checking, LifeGreen Business Simple Checking, for example) names the account in capitals at the top, gives the period as "September 1, 2026 through September 30, 2026", then a Summary box, then the transactions grouped by type under centered headings. Amounts carry no sign: the section they're in says which way the money went.

On the statementIn the Excel file
Summary: Beginning Balance, Deposits & Credits +, Withdrawals −, Fees −, Automatic Transfers +, Checks −, Ending Balance (with Minimum and Average Balance beside it)Not rows. Beginning Balance and Ending Balance are the two numbers the balance check uses.
Deposits & Credits: date, description, amountPositive amounts: deposits, mobile deposits, Zelle credits, card-processor payouts.
Withdrawals and Fees, same columnsNegative amounts, description in one cell: "Card Purchase Example Supply 5261 205-555-0100 AL 35203 4417", -312.48; "Monthly Fee", -7.00.
A Checks table printed two across ("Date Check No. Amount"), with "*" after a number that breaks the sequenceOne row per check: "Check 3101", -250.00, with the date it cleared. The * isn't copied into the description.
The branch, address and "ACCOUNT # / Cycle / Enclosures / Page 2 of 3" block repeated at the top of every page, and each section's "Total …" lineSkipped. When a section runs onto the next page, the page header is never joined onto the last row's description, and totals are never read as rows.
Dates printed as "09/16" (no year)Full dates (2026-09-16), with the year taken from the "through" date. On a statement that runs from December into January, December rows get the earlier year.
The Daily Balance Summary at the endNot rows. Regions doesn't print a running balance beside each transaction, so the Balance column is left empty and the statement's own totals do the checking.

What this is based on: test statements built in Regions' layout above, with made-up names and transactions (deposits, withdrawals continued onto a second page, fees, five checks two across with a break in the sequence, and a December-to-January statement), plus three public Regions checking statements posted by a club, a small business and a school: a RelationshipPlus Basic Checking, a LifeGreen Business Simple Checking and a LifeGreen Not For Profit Checking statement. All 26 of their rows were read and all three balanced to the cent. We don't link to them because they contain people's details. We haven't run every Regions statement style through it: savings, money market and Regions credit card statements, statements with an Automatic Transfers section, and statements with several accounts haven't been tested. The balance check tells you straight away whether yours read correctly.

DateYear first (2026-09-04), so Excel reads it as a date whatever your regional settings.
DescriptionThe Regions description in one cell. Checks read "Check" plus the check number.
AmountNegative for card and PIN purchases, transfers out, payments, fees and checks; positive for deposits and credits. =SUM() over the column equals Ending Balance minus Beginning Balance.
BalanceEmpty: Regions prints balances only in the Daily Balance Summary, not beside each row.

The rows keep the statement's order, section by section (deposits, then withdrawals, fees and checks), so you can tick them off against the PDF. To see the month day by day, sort by the Date column. Want money in and money out in two columns? Use =MAX(C2,0) and =MAX(-C2,0).

QuickBooks and Quicken files for Regions

Regions Online Banking can download transactions for Quicken and QuickBooks (Web Connect). If that download covers the dates you need, use it. For statements a client sent you as PDFs, months you only have as statements, or when you want every row tied to the statement's Ending Balance, start from the PDF. The same Utilly conversion that gives you Excel also includes:

You useDownload
Quicken Classic for WindowsThe QIF (File → File Import → QIF File). See bank statement PDF to QIF.
QuickBooks Online or a Desktop version with Web ConnectThe .QBO, or the 3-column QuickBooks Online CSV. See Regions to QuickBooks.
QuickBooks Desktop without Web ConnectThe .IIF (File → Utilities → Import → IIF Files).
XeroThe Xero CSV or the OFX. See Regions to Xero.

One credit covers every format of that statement. If a download or a bank feed already brought in some of the same dates, start the PDF months where that stopped so nothing comes in twice.

Common problems

ProblemWhat to do
No transactions foundThe PDF is probably a scan or a photo. Download the statement again from Online Statements in Regions Online Banking.
"This PDF is password protected"Save a copy without the password, or download the statement again, and upload that.
Not balancedYou see the difference before paying. A difference equal to one amount on the statement usually means that row couldn't be read; check it against the PDF. If a paid conversion is wrong and we can't fix it, we refund it.
The rows aren't in date orderThat's the statement's order (deposits, withdrawals, fees, checks). Sort by the Date column.
A savings, money market or credit card statementTry it: the balance check tells you straight away whether it read correctly. Those layouts haven't been tested yet.
You need several months in one sheetConvert each statement on its own so each gets its own balance check, then paste the rows into one sheet. Every file has the same columns.

FAQ

Questions

Can I convert a Regions statement PDF to Excel for free?

You can preview every statement free: we show the balance check and the first 5 transactions with no sign-up. Unlocking the full file costs one credit ($9 for 5 statements).

Why not just copy and paste from the PDF?

Copying from a PDF usually scrambles columns, merges descriptions and drops minus signs. Utilly keeps each transaction on one row with a signed amount, and the balance check tells you nothing was missed.

Is my statement stored?

No. The PDF is read in memory and never written to disk, and extracted results are deleted after 1 hour. We never use your data for AI training.

Do scanned statements work?

Not yet. PDFs downloaded from online banking are text-based and work well. Scans and phone photos need OCR, which is on the roadmap.

What if it doesn't balance?

You'll see exactly how far off it is before paying. If a paid conversion is wrong and we can't fix it, email support@version1.io for a refund.

How far back can I download Regions statements?

Regions says that while you're enrolled in Online Statements you can view, save or print up to seven years of statements, and all of them are there as soon as you enroll. In Online Banking choose Online Statements from the Accounts menu; in the Regions app open the account and choose View statements & documents, then filter by year.

Regions prints every amount without a minus sign. How do withdrawals come out?

Negative. Each amount is signed by the section it's printed in: Withdrawals, Fees and Checks are negative, Deposits & Credits are positive. The total is then checked against the Summary, Beginning Balance plus deposits minus withdrawals, fees and checks, to the Ending Balance.

Are checks included?

Yes. The Checks table, printed two across (date, check number, amount), becomes one row per check, such as "Check 3101" for -250.00 on the date it cleared. The * Regions prints after a number that breaks the check sequence is dropped from the description.

Why is the Balance column empty?

Regions doesn't print a running balance beside each transaction, only a Daily Balance Summary at the end. Utilly leaves the Balance column empty rather than guessing, and the statement's own Beginning and Ending Balance do the checking.

Regions can download transactions for Quicken and QuickBooks. Why use the PDF?

If Regions' Download Transactions (Web Connect) covers the dates you need, use it: Regions says it's free with Quicken and QuickBooks. Start from the PDF for statements a client sent you, for months you only have as statements, or when every row should tie to the statement's Ending Balance. The same conversion includes a QIF for Quicken Classic for Windows, a .QBO and an .IIF for QuickBooks, and a Xero CSV.
