1. Download the PDF from Mercury

  1. Sign in to Mercury.
  2. Open Statements (under the account or Settings → Statements).
  3. Download the monthly PDF statement.

2. Upload and verify

Utilly reads every transaction, then checks that opening balance + transactions = closing balance. You'll see Balanced ✓ or exactly how far off it is, before you pay anything.

3. Import into Xero

  1. Download the Xero CSV from your results page.
  2. In Xero, go to Accounting → Bank accounts, find the account and choose Manage account → Import a statement.
  3. Upload the file. The columns already match Xero's precoded statement template.

About Mercury statements

Mercury can export recent transactions directly from its dashboard, which is the easiest route when it covers what you need. Utilly is useful when you only have the PDF statements, for example a client's statements sent to you as attachments, or months you've already reconciled against the statement.

Works with Mercury business checking and savings statements. Any text-based PDF works; if your file doesn't balance, email us and we'll fix it or refund you.

Why Xero?

Xero only imports statements as CSV, OFX or QIF. The Xero CSV is laid out the way Xero expects, so there's no column mapping.

Pricing

Preview any statement free. A $9 pack unlocks 5 full statements in every format, with no expiry and no subscription. Bookkeepers with many clients can go unlimited for $19/month. See pricing.

FAQ

Questions

Can I convert a Mercury statement PDF to Xero for free?

You can preview every statement free: we show the balance check and the first 5 transactions with no sign-up. Unlocking the full file costs one credit ($9 for 5 statements).

Can Xero import a PDF bank statement?

No. Xero imports bank statements as CSV, OFX or QIF only. Convert the PDF to Xero CSV, then use Manage account → Import a statement.

Is my statement stored?

No. The PDF is read in memory and never written to disk, and extracted results are deleted after 1 hour. We never use your data for AI training.

Do scanned statements work?

Not yet. PDFs downloaded from online banking are text-based and work well. Scans and phone photos need OCR, which is on the roadmap.

What if it doesn't balance?

You'll see exactly how far off it is before paying. If a paid conversion is wrong and we can't fix it, email support@version1.io for a refund.
